How To Come Up With Eco Friendly Ideas |
|
|
Having assorted eco friendly ideas here and there is not the problem, but if you want to be really
green you need to plan a little. |
The most obvious benefit of implementing eco friendly ideas in as many areas of your life as possible is that it
will be easier on the environment. True green thinking involves more levels than one would perhaps first think. But
investing in energy saving methods as well as choosing eco friendly alternatives when shopping make a great start.
By setting a good example, you can also contribute to spreading all these eco friendly ideas to other people as
well.
TIP: Get an abundance of ideas the guide called
how to go green.
The destruction of our green little planet is what have made more and more people wake up and smell
the roses. Our forests are being devastated, our oceans are being poisoned and our industries effectively pollute
the air we breath. Coupled with simple carelessness this means that the list of endangered species are growing
rapidly, and one could very well ask when we ought to add humans to that list as well. We have to do something!
The above reasoning has led to a great demand for eco friendly ideas being both sought for and
generated. What the average family can do mostly involve changing certain habits in order to make the home you live
in less of a detriment to the environment. As a lot of the energy we use is still being produced by burning fossil
fuels, using less electricity - by turning off your appliances and buying new ones that consume less - is a very
good start.
When it comes to building a truly eco friendly house the best is to do it from the ground up,
paying careful attention to things like insulation, ventilation and heating system (for the house AND for hot
water). However, older homes can also be converted to a greener state, by renewing critical components. For example
utilizing solar power and/or district heating systems wherever these are feasible and available.
The Eco Friendly Consumer
Thanks to increased popularity, the amount and selection of eco friendly
products have grown a lot. In order to shop as much green products as possible, it is a good idea to
sit down and make a list of products that you use consistently. Then do some research to see
if there are green alternatives available. This way what you are doing can really be classified as ecological
shopping instead of a hit and miss affair.
In order to help consumers find products that are easier on the environment, various certifications
have been created. In Scandinavia for example they have "Svanen" ('the Swan'), that has been successfully in use
since 1989 and that in 2008 was recognized as one of the best environmental certifications in the world, by the
company Environmental Resources Management on behalf of the British Department for Environment, Food and Rural
Affairs.
Similar certifications are 'the flower' in the European Union and 'Environmental Choice' in New
Zealand. In the US something titled 'The Good Company' seal has been introduced in order to help consumers spot environmentally
friendly products in the store along side other certifications such as the 'Green Seal'.
Spreading The Word
When you have discovered the goodness of actually implementing your eco friendly ideas and
have adopted a sustainable overall lifestyle, you often end up asking yourself how you can spread the word about
these practices. The simplest way is to keep doing what you are doing. By setting a good example you are
'advertising' the green lifestyle without any risk of being labeled as some kind of 'green hippie environmental
activist'.
A good way of taking this even further is to organize certain events, especially stressing the eco
friendly ideas you have come up with. Just as an example, the author Jen Marsden has written a book
titled The Green Guide for Weddings that offers an
array of experience and opinion for brides and grooms who want their nuptials to be as planet-friendly as
possible - covering everything from dress selection to honeymoon plans.
