Green Home Design And Construction - Dream Or Reality?
|
|
|
Green home design involves a lot more than saving energy. |
When building a green home there are many things you must keep track of. First,
what is around your potential new home is as vital an aspect to a green home as the features that help you
consume less energy on a daily basis. If your house is in an area where you can walk to get everything you
need, then it is way more likely to classify as a green home than a place far in the country that requires
long drives to get anywhere. By having everything that you need nearby, you'll be able to save gasoline, time,
and funding.
What kind of building materials used in order to construct your new home also matters of course. Everything from
roofing and fencing to interior decoration can be done while paying extra attention to green home design. For
example, you could go for linseed oil based paint, that is totally renewable, instead of synthetic vinyl, acrylic
and alkyd based paints that are less food for everybody involved (you, your house and the environment).
Energy In The Self-Sufficient Green Home
A choice that has grown in famousness is the so called self-sufficient green home. These houses have massive
gardens that produce adequate food to feed a small family without issue. They could be powered on solar electricity
or by a small water mill located directly on the property. However, they have one fascinating thing in common :
these green homes are off the power grid. By not being linked to the grid, they do not make a contribution to the
growing problem of high energy consumption. For those who are truly interested in a green home, this may be the
style of home desired.
An Energy Star home is something worthy of your consideration as well. These houses are
designed to want as little energy as possible to stay cool in the summer and warm in winter. By removing the
necessity for as much heating and air conditioning, as well as using only the best of appliances, you can
seriously reduce the amount of cash spent on electricity. Thus, you do your part in reducing the amount of
energy needed in your area. The disadvantage to this type of green home is that they can cost quite a lot to get
set up. The high primary price will slowly pay off as the years go by.
Owning a green home isn't the only thing that you can do to help the environment. Purchase products that are
authorized as doing small damage to the environment when it was made. You should also strive to use only
biodegradable cleaning products. Skip all things that damage the environment. If you take a firm stance by owning a
green home, you can be a prime example that it can be accomplished without giving up comfortableness and the good
life.
Although green home design and construction have taken its time to become popular, there is now more and more
building companies that will cater to the needs of this market. And there is also some very good literature on the
subject.
If you are going to build a new home any time soon this is definitely something you should look into.
